Popple Shoot Trail Races : Minong, Wisconsin
The Popple Shoot Trail Races, organized by Big Slo Running, take place on May 9, 2026, with start and finish at Wild River Campground, 802 Railroad St, Minong, WI. The event includes multiple distances run on a mix of crushed gravel trail, single lane ATV trails and county roads.
The available distances are:
- 87K: large single loop plus smaller loop on Wild Rivers Trail, ATV trails, county roads
- 62K: single loop on Wild Rivers Trail, ATV trails and county roads
- 25K: out and back on Wild Rivers Trail and single lane ATV trails
- 10K: mostly single loop with short out and back on Wild Rivers Trail and roads
Course terrain includes the Wild Rivers Trail (old railroad bed with crushed gravel), single lane dirt ATV trails and paved and dirt county roads. Total elevation gain and loss is described as minor. The 87K and 62K races use a generous 15 hour finish cutoff; the 87K also has an intermediate 12 hour cutoff at the Hall Road aid station on the second lap (mile 42.3).
Aid station support varies by distance. The 87K has eight fully stocked stations and one water only station; the 62K has six fully stocked stations and one water only station. Typical aid station items include sandwiches, cookies, fruit, electrolyte drink and water. Awards are presented by overall and age categories for each distance.
