About the race
Polar Night Marathon, also called Mørketidsløpet, is a winter road race in Tromsø held on 9 January 2027. The event takes place during the polar night, when runners compete in the blue, arctic daylight found in the period before the sun returns. Spectators line parts of the course and help light the route with applause and cheering. The city streets shine with lights as runners approach the finish, and the northern lights may appear.
The event offers four road race distances. The marathon distance is officially measured and certified, and the event is a member of AIMS.
