Polar Prowl in Arvada
The Polar Prowl returns for its 14th annual edition at the Stenger Sports Complex in Arvada, Colorado. This event serves as the first half marathon of the year in the Denver area. Participants can choose between three primary distances or select virtual options:
- Half Marathon (13.1 Miles)
- 10K
- 5K
The courses utilize the Van Bibber Creek Trail, which travels through Arvada's open spaces and provides views of Table Mountain. Starting from the Stenger parking lot, the routes consist of double out-and-back sections. The Half Marathon follows a two-lap format, while the 10K and 5K use a single-lap double out-and-back design. The terrain is described as relatively flat, making the event a venue for runners seeking a personal record or a qualifying time for the BOLDERBoulder.
Support for athletes is situated along the trails. The Half Marathon course includes 10 fueling opportunities and 4 restrooms. The 10K contains 5 fueling opportunities and 2 restrooms, and the 5K offers 4 fueling opportunities and 1 restroom. The event layout is spectator-friendly, with a specific viewing area located near the main venue where spectators can see athletes multiple times before they reach the finish line.
In addition to the running competition, the event includes a penguin costume contest in support of Penguins International. Virtual participants receive a distance medal and SWAG by mail and remain eligible for alumni brag tags and credit toward the Run Amok Championship.
