4th Annual Poker Run 5K
This is a timed 5K run held at Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park in North Port, Florida to benefit the Imagine North Port Cross Country and Track and Field Sharks. The event uses a Texas Hold'em style poker format in which each participant who plays poker receives two private hole cards and three community cards are placed at the table. Runners pick up two cards at a midcourse water and poker table and reveal their hole cards after finishing. The best five card poker hand wins the pot. In this event straights beat flushes. In the case of an identical best poker hand the faster runner wins.
Participants must be 21 or older to play poker. The highest poker hand receives a gift card and a medal and the worst poker hand receives a gift card and a medal. Water is available at the midcourse table where cards are collected. Hot dogs and chips and snack bars are provided after the finish. Packet pickup takes place before race day at a designated location and on the morning of the race at the park. Parking is available within the park. The course routes out of the park, turns at the water and poker table where runners collect two cards, then returns to the finish for a total of about 3.1 miles.
