Event Overview
The Poker Run 5K is a timed running race held at Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park in North Port, Florida. This event supports the Imagine North Port Cross Country Sharks, with proceeds directed to the cross country team boosters account. The course consists of a 3.1 mile out-and-back route that begins inside the park, heads onto local roads, and returns to the park pavilion.
Poker Run Format
The race features a Texas Hold'em style competition for participants aged 21 and older. Runners collect two playing cards from a table located at the mid-race water station. These cards serve as the runner's "hole cards." Upon returning to the finish line, participants submit these cards at the check-in table to be combined with three community cards (the "flop") displayed on-site. The winner is determined by the best five-card poker hand using a combination of the runner's cards and the community cards. In this specific format, straights are ranked higher than flushes.
Race Details and Amenities
While the poker competition is restricted to those 21 and over, the 5K run is open to all ages. Participants who register by the specified deadline are guaranteed an event shirt. On-site facilities include a water station at the turnaround point and parking located within the park near the large pavilion. Following the run, breakfast, coffee, and hot dogs are provided for participants.
