  • Sprint: 750 m swim / 12.2 mile bike / 5K run
  • Aquabike and 2-3 person relay options available for both distances

Course details and logistics

The swim takes place in the southeast portion of Lake Anna, about 1/4 mile from where the lake’s warmer "hot side" empties into the cold side; water temperatures in this section are typically 4-6 degrees warmer than other parts of the lake and are expected in the mid to upper 70s in mid-October. The Olympic swim is a triangular in-water start with two right turns and sighting buoys roughly every 75 m; the sprint swim is a rectangular in-water start with sighting buoys every 50-75 m. Kinetic Multisports uses a time trial swim start with two athletes launched every few seconds; an Elite Box Start is used for athletes racing up front.

The Olympic bike is a two-loop paved course around the lake; the sprint bike is a single loop on low-traffic paved roads with short climbs on lake causeways. Both run courses include short sections of woods and gravel before paved out-and-back segments near the South Anna River. Packet pickup is available at the marina on the day before and the morning of the event; participants must present photo ID. Parking at the venue is limited; some parking is off-site about a quarter mile away. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
