Event Overview
The Pleasant Mountain Race is a trail running event held in Bridgton, Maine. The course starts and finishes at the Pleasant Mountain East Lodge. It is part of the Loon Echo Race Series, which includes other events like the Crooked River 5k, Bald Pate 10k, and Five Fields Farm 50k. All proceeds from the race benefit the Loon Echo Land Trust, a non-profit organization focused on land conservation in the Lakes Region.
Course Details
The route is approximately 21 km long and involves significant elevation gain. The course features technical single-track trails and traverses Pleasant Mountain's ridge.
- Initial Climb: The race begins with a 1700-foot climb over 2 miles up Bald Peak.
- Descent and Second Ascent: After descending via the Firewarden's trail, runners partially circle the mountain base before ascending 1900 feet over 2.5 miles via the Southwest Ridge Trail.
- Summit and Finish: Following the summit, the course continues across the northern ridge and descends via the technical Sue's Way trail, connecting back to Bald Peak and finishing at the East Lodge.
One aid station is located at the Southwest Ridge Trailhead, offering water, Tailwind, and various snacks.
Race Requirements
Participants must carry mandatory gear, which will be checked at bib pickup. The required items are at least 500 mL of water, at least 400 calories of food, a windbreaker or rain shell, a space or emergency foil blanket, and a headlamp.
Additional Information
Registration includes a tech t-shirt (if registered by a specified date), a food truck ticket with a gluten-free option, a beer ticket for participants 21 and over (non-alcoholic beverages also available), and a finisher's medal. An afterparty features a food truck, beer from Norway Brewing Co, and live music. Bib pick-up is available on race morning at the East Lodge.
