Event overview
The Pilot Mountain Salamander Scamper is a trail race in Pinnacle, North Carolina. The event distance is 25K. The field is limited to 125 runners. There is a cut-off time of 2:30 pm. The race will take place rain or shine unless Pilot Mountain State Park is closed due to weather, in which case organizers will attempt to reschedule.
Course and services
The start and finish area is at 301 Boyd Nelson Rd, Pilot Mountain. The route begins at the Pilot Creek Trailhead and follows Pilot Creek Trail, Grindstone Trail, Ledge Springs Trail, Jomeokee Trail around the pinnacle, the Mountain Trail, and returns on Grindstone and Pilot Creek Trail. The course includes a climb to the Pinnacle with views of the Piedmont below. Full aid stations are located at approximately 3 miles, 7 miles, and 13 miles and provide water, Gatorade, Coke, gels, and fruit. An interactive course map with elevation is available.
Logistics
The registration fee includes a long sleeve technical shirt (guaranteed if registered by January 5), three fully stocked aid stations, a hot post-race meal, and a large lazer engraved finisher medallion. Dry camping is available at Jomeokee Campground, about a six minute drive from the start. Packet pick-up is available Friday outside the Pilot Mountain State Park Visitor Center and on race day at the start; the park opens at 8:00 am. Transfers to another runner are allowed through February 19, 2026; no refunds or transfers to another year or event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
