Labour Day Classic
The Labour Day Classic is a historic road running event managed by the Prince George Road Runners. Originally established as the Prince George to Boston Marathon, the race began as a 17-mile course from Salmon Valley into the city. It holds historical significance as the event that inspired Terry Fox to begin his Marathon of Hope. As of 2025, the event features updated regulation distances for its longer routes.
Participants can choose from a variety of distances:
- 5 km
- 10 km
- 21.1 km (Half Marathon)
- 42.2 km (Full Marathon)
- A free Kids Race is also included.
The races start and finish at the PG Oval (Ice Oval). The routes navigate through Prince George using sidewalks, multi-use paths, and paved shoulders along roads such as 18th Avenue, Foothills Blvd, University Way, and Ospika Blvd. The marathon course extends to the city limits on North Nechako Rd before returning.
The entry fee includes participation in the race and a post-race banquet. While the event is organized by the PGRR club, registration is open to both members and non-members. Due to safety and liability guidelines, dogs and headphones are prohibited on the course. There is no registration available on the day of the event.
