Event details
The Granny's Bay Challenge is a timed running event held in Lytham St. Annes, Lancashire, starting and finishing at the Fylde Spitfire Memorial, Inner Promenade, FY8 1EQ. The event is a six-hour timed format; participants may complete as many or as few laps as they wish within the six-hour limit. Completing at least one lap results in an official time and a medal. The event is held under UK Athletics rules and the Trail Running Association race permit number is listed as TBA.
Entry fees are £28 for affiliated runners and £30 for unaffiliated runners. Maximum entrants are 100. Entries close on 07/03/2026 and the source lists 39 entries remaining. Refunds are not permitted. Deferrals or transfers to another runner are allowed up to one week before the event.
Course and categories
The course is a flat tarmac path along the Ribble estuary. The route passes Fairhaven lake, Granny's Bay and Lytham Green with views of Lytham windmill and across the estuary towards Southport and North Wales. Runners reach a turn point at the end of Lytham Green before returning to the Spitfire Memorial.
Distances:
- 5.24 miles per lap (out & back / loop)
- 2.62 miles short loop used as part of the half marathon
Age limits: all participants must be 18 or older. Ages 18-19 may run up to a marathon distance; over 20 have no maximum distance. For a marathon the entrant must complete five laps; a half marathon is two full laps plus the short loop. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
