Event overview
The Persistence Backyard Ultra takes place on August 1, 2026 at Eco Park, 15889 Medway Road, Arva, Ontario. The event is affiliated with Lazarus Lake's Big Dog's Backyard Ultra and is a Silver Ticket event; the winner receives an automatic entry to compete in the World Team Championship. The race is capped at 67 participants. A portion of each registration is donated to the Children's Health Foundation. The event has been sanctioned by Athletics Ontario since its first edition and sanctioning will be applied for again.
Course, format and logistics
- 3.36 km circuit per lap.
- 6.7056 km required each hour, made by completing the 3.36 km circuit twice consecutively within the hour.
The course is a smaller circuit near Race HQ and is described as runnable, consisting of crushed stone trail, some grass, and a dirt road. The Eco Park is private and the course will not be available for preregistered practice. No official timing is provided; runners must return to Race HQ before the hour expires to continue. Headlamps or equivalent are required for running after dark. Medical support will be on site and staff may withdraw runners for safety reasons.
Crew are limited to two members per runner at the start; crew may change during daylight hours and may assist other runners as participants are eliminated. Spectators are not permitted. Runners must bring their own food and drinks; there is no potable water on site though the race will provide some hydration options. Each runner receives a commemorative hoodie.
