Pennine Barrier Ultra 50
The Pennine Barrier Ultra 50 is a 50 mile trail ultramarathon based at Malham in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The course records approximately 2593 m of ascent and follows well known trails including Malham Cove, the Dry Valley of Watlowes, Malham Tarn, Fountains Fell, Janet’s Foss and the Yorkshire Three Peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and held under UK Athletics rules. It also awards ITRA points and UTMB mountain performance index points (allocation to be confirmed).
The field is limited to 750 places and the overall event has an 18 hour cut-off. There are five staffed checkpoints that provide drinks (cola, Tailwind, water, juice), sandwiches, salted potatoes, fruit, snacks and a range of items suitable for vegetarian and vegan diets; medical or first responder cover is available at checkpoints. No dropbags are permitted and pacers or support runners are not allowed.
Entrants must be at least 20 years old and must have previously completed an organised marathon-distance event. Mandatory kit must be carried at all times and includes a waterproof coat with sealed seams, a long-sleeved base layer in a dry bag, a minimum 1 litre water container, a fully charged mobile phone in waterproof covering, an emergency blanket, a headtorch (min 75 lumens) with a backup light (min 25 lumens), emergency rations (min 500 kcal), a whistle and the GB Race Tracker GPS device provided by the organiser.
