Pennine Barrier Ultra 50
The Pennine Barrier Ultra 50 is a 50 miles trail ultramarathon around Malham in the Yorkshire Dales with 2593 m of ascent and 750 places available. The route uses sections of the Pennine Way and the Yorkshire Three Peaks way-marked trails and passes features such as Malham Cove, the Dry Valley of Watlowes, Malham Tarn, Fountains Fell and Janet’s Foss, and the peaks Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. A race GPX route is provided.
The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and held under UK Athletics rules. It offers ITRA points and UTMB mountain performance index points with allocation to be confirmed. The overall cut off for the event is 18 hours. There are five checkpoints on course that provide food, drinks and medical support; some checkpoint locations restrict supporter and support crew access.
Entrants must be at least 20 years old and must have completed an organised marathon distance before race day. No dropbags are permitted and pacers or support runners are not allowed. Each participant must carry a GB Race Tracker device which records location and includes an SOS function; the tracker remains property of the race organiser and must be returned.
Mandatory kit must be carried at all times and includes items such as a waterproof coat with sealed seams, a long sleeve base layer in a dry bag, a water container of at least 1 litre, a fully charged mobile phone in waterproof covering, an emergency blanket, headtorch and backup light, at least 500 calories of emergency rations, a whistle and the GPS tracker. Random kit checks will take place and failure to carry required items can result in disqualification.
Parking at Malham Showfield is provided for participants but parking is limited. Medals are awarded by finishing position tier with Gold for the top 200, Silver for 201 to 400 and Bronze thereafter. Information on transfers, deferrals and refunds is detailed in the event terms and conditions. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
