Pen-y-Ghent Fell Race - Saturday 6 June 2026

The Pen-y-Ghent Fell Race is the first race in the Yorkshire Dales Classics Race Series. The event is an AM category mountain course that starts and finishes at Horton in Ribblesdale playing field (BD24 0HH). The course distance is 12.2 km / 7.6 miles with approximately 500 m / 1640 ft of ascent. Minimum age to enter is 18. The race holds a permit and associated UK Athletics insurance from the FRA.

The route leaves Horton, passes the church and old school, then climbs via Brackenbottom Scar and Limekiln Pastures to the summit of Pen-y-Ghent. A flagged section runs from the summit to the finger post; the route then follows the 3 Peaks Path and Pennine Way via Whitber Hill and Jackdaw Hill before returning to Horton and the playing fields. There are two official check points at the summit of Pen-y-Ghent and at Whitber Hill. Marshalls will be positioned around the course. The route uses open rights of way and footpaths and may be run prior to race day.

Pre-entry and entry-on-the-day are available. Pre-entry fees are £12 for FRA members and £15 for non-members; entry on the day is charged at the published rate. All entry fees are non-refundable. Car parking is available on the playing fields for a charge of £3. Toilets are provided on the playing fields and at the Yorkshire Dales National Park car park.
