WYVUM Wye Valley races
- WYVUM 30: single-loop Wye Valley course via Tintern Abbey and Monmouth
- WYVUM HALF: 14.5-mile single-loop route to Brockweir and back to Chepstow
WYVUM events are trail races based in Chepstow that use paths through the Wye Valley and sections of national trails. The full WYVUM 30 follows part of the Wye Valley Walk to Monmouth and returns along the Offa’s Dyke Path, while the WYVUM HALF follows the Wye Valley Walk to Brockweir then returns on the Offa’s Dyke Path. Both routes pass ancient woodland and riverside sections and visit Tintern Abbey and other local landmarks such as Giant’s Cave, the 365 Steps, Lovers Leap, Cleddon Falls and Devil’s Pulpit.
Terrain is roughly 90% trail and 10% road. The WYVUM 30 route has a total elevation gain of 5,540 feet and includes two fully stocked aid stations plus a midpoint water station and drop bag point. The WYVUM HALF has an elevation gain of 2,350 feet and one fully stocked aid station. The course also reaches viewpoints such as the Kymin and passes nature reserves including Highbury Woods, Cadora Woods and Bigswere Woods.
Mandatory kit includes trail shoes or hiking boots, waterproof jacket, minimum 1 litre water bottle, charged mobile phone, GPX route on a device, head torch, survival bag, reusable cup and a way to carry equipment.
