Bike courses are described as flat and fast, with most of the route on a section of Marine Drive that is restricted to local traffic during the event. Swim practice is allowed only inside the roped buoy line at the designated swim beach. Water temperatures at this time of year are typically in the mid 60s, and wetsuits are optional. Aid stations are placed approximately every two miles on the run course and will offer energy drink and gel; athletes must carry hydration and fuel on the bike.
On-site services include basic bike mechanic support, packet pickup the day before and the morning of the event, and porta-potties at the start/finish and along the run course. Post-race provisions include food, beverages and beer from a local brewery. The event follows USAT rules for multisport competition. A Friends and Family division allows mixed-age and mixed-gender participants to start together as a non-competitive option. No pets are allowed in the park.
