Overview
The Payson Orchards Triathlon is a multi-sport event held in Payson, Utah. The race follows a reverse-order format, meaning participants complete the run first, followed by the bike leg, and finish with the swim. The event centers around the Payson Community Pool and features courses that pass through local cherry orchards and farms.
Distance Options
Participants can choose from several event categories:
- Sprint Triathlon Individual: 5 km run, 18 km bike, and 300 yard swim.
- Sprint Triathlon Team: 5 km run, 18 km bike, and 300 yard swim for 2-3 people.
- 12 and Under Super-Sprint: 1.25 mile run, 2 mile bike, and 100 yard swim.
- 5K ONLY: 5 km walk or run.
Course Details
The 5 km run heads east toward Peteetneet Road and proceeds south toward a canyon turnaround before returning to the first transition area on Main Street. The 11 mile bike leg consists of a relatively flat loop through blooming orchards with views of the Payson LDS temple. The bike course crosses train tracks twice, where participants must exercise caution. The 300 yard swim takes place in the Payson Community Pool, where swimmers use a "snake" method across six lanes.
Amenities and Logistics
The event utilizes an accurate timing chip system, and participants receive a printed summary of their results shortly after finishing. All registrants receive a swag bag containing a t-shirt, finisher medal, and race bib. Each participant also receives wristbands for early entry to the Payson Pool open swim. A spectator area at the venue includes a playground and various vendors. Packet pickup is available on the Friday evening before the race and on the morning of the event at the pool pavilion.
