Patriots Triathlon : Jamestown Beach, Williamsburg VA
The Patriots Triathlon is a two-day triathlon festival held at Jamestown Beach Event Park in Williamsburg, Virginia. The event offers Olympic and Sprint race options with a time trial swim start from Jamestown Beach into the brackish James River. The swim courses are rectangular, mostly parallel to shore, and the water depth ranges about 6 to 10 feet. Kayak rentals are available onsite and preliminary water temperatures are monitored in the days before the races.
Both bike courses are described as mostly flat and fast, run largely along Rt. 5 and paralleling regional bike trails. The Olympic bike includes a low-traffic out-and-back section and crosses the Chickahominy River bridge; the sprint course has minimal turns with a turnaround before the bridge. The run courses follow asphalt bike paths and shaded, packed gravel trails; the Olympic run includes aid stations every mile serving ice water and Gatorade, while the sprint has aid at the start and at the turnaround with water and ice.
Race features include race shirts, finisher medals, post-race food and drink, and USA Triathlon sanctioning. Multiple scoring categories are offered, including age group, aquabike, military, Clydesdale, Athena, collegiate, and relay teams. Packet pickup is available the day before and on race morning; photo ID is required to collect race materials. A combined-entry discount is offered for participants who enter both race days.
