Patriots Triathlon : Jamestown Beach, Williamsburg VA
The Patriots Triathlon is a weekend multisport event held at Jamestown Beach Event Park near Williamsburg, Virginia, with Olympic and Sprint course options. The swim is a time trial rectangular course in the brackish James River starting from Jamestown Beach; much of the swim runs parallel to shore in water roughly 6 to 10 feet deep and kayak rentals are available onsite. Water temperatures are typically expected in the mid to upper 70s and an official reading is taken the morning of the event.
The bike courses are described as mostly flat and fast, largely out and back along Rt. 5 and paralleling a local bike trail, with the main elevation change occurring at the Chickahominy River bridge. The run courses follow asphalt bike paths and packed gravel trails through shaded woods and historic farmland; the Olympic run includes aid stations every mile serving ice water and Gatorade, while the Sprint run has aid at the start and turnaround with water and ice.
Race categories include Overall, Masters Overall, Age Group, Aquabike, Military, Clydesdale, Athena, Collegiate and Relay teams. The event is USA Triathlon sanctioned and offers one day licenses for nonmembers. Packet pickup is available on separate days for Olympic and Sprint participants, and a weekend registration option provides a discount for racing both days.
