Event overview
Patriots Run is an annual running event held to honor first responders, military members, and others who protect freedoms. The event weekend is scheduled around September 11 and includes a run day on September 12, 2026. Race operations and participant services use multiple sites in the Kansas City area, including addresses in Overland Park and Olathe.
Races and format
The event program includes multiple race options:
- 5K - two full laps plus 0.1 mile to equal 3.1 miles; a 1 hour 11-minute cutoff applies.
- Half Marathon - eight full laps plus 1.1 miles to equal 13.1 miles.
- Marathon - 17 full laps plus 0.5 mile to equal 26.2 miles.
- Ultra Marathon - individual competitors complete as many laps of a 1.5-mile loop as possible within a 9 hour 11-minute period; no minimum distance required.
- Heavy Team Relay - teams up to five carry a 35 lb rucksack and complete laps of the 1.5-mile course within the same timed period; teams must supply one rucksack for weighing and tagging.
- Light Team Relay - teams up to five complete laps of the 1.5-mile course within the timed period.
Teams are allowed a designated pit area and may bring a 10x10 tent for rest and equipment storage.
Prizes and entry details
Individual races award prize money to top male and female finishers; several event pages list first, second and third place awards (for many events first place is $250, second $150, third $50). Team participation requires a minimum fundraising or donation of $500 per team. Packet pickup is scheduled the day before the run and at event packet locations identified by the organizer.
