Mudskipper Ontario SwimRun Championships and Parry Sound Open Water Swim
The Mudskipper Ontario SwimRun Championships and the Parry Sound Open Water Swim, presented by Canaqua Sports, take place at Waubano Beach in Parry Sound, Ontario. This multisport event features combinations of swimming and running through the waters of Georgian Bay and the surrounding trail networks.
SwimRun Events
The Mudskipper SwimRun Challenge offers two distances for participants. The courses involve multiple transitions between swimming and running, featuring both flat sections and cross-country terrain:
- 12.9 km total distance.
- 25.8 km total distance, designated as the Ontario SwimRun Championships. This championship course consists of two laps of the 12.9 km route.
Open Water Swimming Events
The swim course is a 2 km loop starting at Waubano Park and running toward the Parry Sound Salt Docks and back. Participants can choose from three distances:
- 2 km (1 lap)
- 4 km (2 laps)
- 10 km (5 laps)
Technical Details and Facilities
The water temperature typically ranges between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius (68-72 °F). Wetsuits are optional for all participants. Swim caps are provided by the organizers and must be worn for identification throughout the race. Participants will also have numbers marked on their upper back or shoulders for tracking. On-site infrastructure includes available washrooms and provided food. The event features technical trail running that requires shoes with good traction suitable for both water and land.
