Panther Creek Challenge
The Panther Creek Challenge is an off-road running event held at Panther Creek State Park in Morristown, Tennessee. The event takes place at the northwest corner of the park, with the start and finish lines located at The Overlook pavilion. The courses feature a mix of single-track trails and loops that descend from the overlook and wind through wooded areas and along the shoreline of the lake.
Participants can choose from several distances:
- 13.1 Miles (Half Marathon)
- 10K (approx. 5-6 miles)
- 1 Mile (Kids Trail Mile)
The terrain is characterized by steep sections and circuitous loops through a forested environment. Runners in the 13.1 mile and 10K events are required to maintain a minimum pace of 18:00 per mile. A sweeper follows the final participants to ensure everyone completes the course within the designated timeframe. For safety reasons, participants under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult if they are competing in the longer distances.
Water and aid stations are positioned along the route, though runners are encouraged to carry their own hydration as only small cups are provided. The event prohibits the use of headsets, earphones, bicycles, strollers, and pets on the course. Results are recorded using bibs, which must remain intact for accurate timing.
