Panther Claw 1776
The Panther Claw 1776 is a trail event at Panther Creek State Park in Morristown, TN featuring a full solo distance and a relay option. The full race covers 17.76 miles divided into three named loops - Red, White, and Blue - that all begin and end at a central hub. To complete the full distance participants must run all three loops; runners may choose the order of the loops.
The course is about 90% singletrack and includes mountain bike style cruising sections, rocky stretches, dense forest, and overlooks of Cherokee Lake. Terrain includes flat sections, rolling hills, and several steep climbs. One aid station serves the start and end of each loop. Runners are asked to bring a personal cup and regular hydration gear; the aid station supplies water, electrolyte options, soda, pickle juice, pancakes, bacon, and other snacks.
Relay teams consist of three people with each team member running one loop; individual relay loops are roughly six miles. Event policies note no crews and no drop bags. There is a 4.5 hour overall cutoff; participants must begin the third loop by the stated cutoff time. All entrants receive a shirt and a finisher medal, though items are not guaranteed for registrations after June 15. There are no refunds, transfers, or deferments and organizers cannot mail awards or forgotten items. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
