Painted Horse Urban Ultra
The Painted Horse Urban Ultra is scheduled for February 27, 2027 in Ocala, FL and is organized by Where's the Finish. It is presented as a low‑key, self supported urban adventure run rather than a competitive race. The event uses a loop course this year instead of a point to point route and relies on participant navigation with turn by turn directions.
The event is navigation focused and described as an adventure, sightseeing trip, and scavenger hunt. There is no time limit and participants may encounter occasional water drops and special treats, but the event should not be expected to be fully supported. Race day registration is available and general registration opens October 1, 2026.
The route includes a large number of painted horse artworks placed around Marion County. The 55k route visits about 40 painted horses, while the 25k option visits roughly 25 horses on a different, sometimes intersecting route. The painted horses originate from a 2000 public art project called Horse Fever, with additional horses added for the project's 20th anniversary; many pieces are concentrated in downtown Ocala.
