Breast Cancer Awareness Walk
Paint the Town Pink is a community event held at Switchyard Park in Bloomington, Indiana. The event focuses on breast cancer awareness and provides support services for patients and survivors. This gathering is organized through a partnership between the Cancer Support Community, the City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation department, IU Health, and the IU School of Medicine.
The event features a walking trail through the park with two distance options:
- 0.5 miles
- 1 mile
Participants can choose either distance for their walk. The program includes a Breast Cancer Survivor Ceremony where survivors are invited to share their name and length of survivorship. Each survivor receives a complimentary gift provided by the Cancer Support Community. A resource fair and educational materials are available to the public throughout the celebration, offering information on early identification and screening.
Local food trucks provide refreshments during the event. While participation is free, donations support local initiatives such as breast cancer support groups, oncology massages, and specialized bras for radiation patients. Participants who register in advance may obtain event-themed shirts. The broader awareness campaign also involves local businesses displaying pink ribbons and messages in their windows throughout the month.
