Paine Mountain Trail Races
The fourth annual Paine Mountain Trail Races include two competitive, technical trail events and free youth races. The event serves as a fundraiser for the Northfield Town Forest and the Norwich University cross country teams, with a portion of funds designated for trail management and for continued development of the home cross country course.
Race offerings:
- 6k Anchor Challenge to the Norwich "Anchor"
- 7.5 mile Paine Mountain Summit race to the summit and back
- 200m and 1 mile youth races, youth races are free
Both adult races start and finish at the Norwich Shaw Outdoor Center at 165 Paine Mountain Drive, Northfield, VT. Courses begin on single-track switchback wooded trails for just over a mile to Cheney Field, where the Summit course splits from the Anchor course. The Summit route continues to the Paine Mountain summit, circles back toward the Anchor, and reconnects with the Anchor course. The final mile and a half return to single-track wooded trails back to the Shaw Outdoor Center finish.
Registration pricing varies by date; youth entry is free and a student discount is available for Norwich University. The Norwich Shaw Outdoor Center supports a network of multi-use trails and provides free outdoor equipment use to the local community. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
