Paine Mountain Trail Races
The fourth annual Paine Mountain Trail Races take place at the Shaw Outdoor Center on Paine Mountain in Northfield, Vermont on September 27, 2026. The event is hosted by the Norwich University cross country program and serves as a fundraiser to support development of the Norwich home cross country course introduced in 2023. A portion of funds raised will be given to the Town of Northfield for trail development.
Race options include multiple distances and a youth program. Entry is available online from June 1 through September 25, with an early registration fee and a later online fee; in-person registration is offered on race day. Youth races from 200 meters up to one mile are free.
Distances
- Paine Summit approximately 7 mile plus
- Anchor Challenge 6k with a 4 person team option
- Youth races 200m to 1 mile, free
Post-race amenities include refreshments, local Vermont and New England products, music, raffle prizes, awards and a special gift for pre-registered participants. Awards recognize the first male and female to reach the summit and the anchor of each race, top three overall finishers by gender, and age division winners in ten year brackets. The Anchor Challenge includes a four person team competition for ROTC, military specialty units, Norwich clubs and community running clubs.
