Pain in Moraine : Moraine State Park South Shore
Pain in Moraine is a 24 hour loop challenge held at Moraine State Park South Shore, using the Sunken Garden Trailhead. The course follows the Pleasant Valley, Hilltop, and Sunken Garden trails. Each loop is nearly a 10K (6.2 miles) with approximately 723 feet of vertical gain.
Competitors may arrive at any point during the 24 hour event to log loops and may leave and return later after informing the race director. Miles of Smiles tracking is new for 2026. The event base area near the start and finish allows tents and canopies; these must be tethered appropriately. Camp fires and alcohol are not permitted in the state park. A couple of propane heaters will be available near the main tent overnight.
The main tent includes a fully stocked aid station and hot food options such as toasted cheese, cheese quesadilla, ramen noodles, hot dogs, and pizza. A mini aid station at the halfway point provides water and Gatorade throughout the event. Crews may assist runners at the start/finish and at the 3.5 mile water station; parking is limited at the water station and parking on the road is not allowed. All runners under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Registrations made prior to 2026-08-23 receive a pair of 3 inch wool socks and a Techno Lite Vest. Awards recognize the male and female with the most loops and additional awards are given for 5 or more loops. A refund or deferment is available for pregnancy or postpartum with contact to the race director. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
