Pain in Moraine : Moraine State Park, Portersville, PA
Pain in Moraine is a 24 hour 10K loop challenge held at Moraine State Park South Shore, using the Sunken Garden Trailhead as the base. The course follows the Pleasant Valley, Hilltop, and Sunken Garden trails. Each loop is an almost perfect 10K (6.2 miles) with approximately 723 feet of vertical gain.
Competitors may arrive during the event window to log loops and may leave and return later after communicating their intentions to the race director. Race staff provide a main tent with a fully stocked aid station and hot food options; a mini aid station at the halfway point is stocked with water and Gatorade and is available throughout the event.
There is room near the start and finish for a base camp; tents and canopies are permitted and should be tethered appropriately. Camp fires and alcohol are not permitted in the state park. A couple of propane heaters will be available near the main tent overnight.
Event day registration is allowed if capacity is not reached; cash or Venmo are accepted and event swag may be available depending on supply. Awards are given to the top male and female by loop count with tie breakers by last loop time. Additional awards recognize ultra distances based on loop totals. Runners under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. A refund or deferment is available for pregnancy or postpartum with notice to the race director.
