Pain in Moraine

Pain in Moraine is a 24 hour loop challenge held at Moraine State Park South Shore in Portersville, PA. The event uses an almost perfect 10K (6.2 miles) loop that follows the Pleasant Valley, Hilltop, and Sunken Garden trails and has approximately 723' of vertical gain per loop.

The start and finish area is located at Windy Knob pavilion 3. Competitors may arrive at any point during the 24 hour period to log loops; runners may leave and return later but should communicate plans to the race director. A main tent at the start/finish will provide a fully stocked aid station with hot food items listed by the organizer, and a mini aid station at the halfway point will be stocked with water and Gatorade and available throughout the event.

There is room near the start/finish for a base camp; tents and canopies are permitted and should be tethered appropriately. Camp fires and alcohol are not permitted in the state park. A couple of propane heaters will be available near the main tent overnight.

Awards will be given to the male and female with the most completed loops, with ties decided by last loop time; additional awards recognize competitors who reach ultra distances based on loop count. Runners under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Crews may assist at the start/finish and the 3.5 mile water station but are responsible for their own supplies and must follow posted parking and speed rules.

Registrations prior to 8/23/2026 received a pair of 3" wool socks and a Techno Lite Vest; event day registration was allowed if capacity was not met. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
