Event Overview
The Bidwells Oxford 10K is an annual road running event that started in 1982. It is the oldest run in the organizer's Town and Gown series. All profits from the event go to Muscular Dystrophy UK.
The event typically attracts around 6,000 participants. It includes a 10K race open to participants aged 16 and over, and a 3K junior race for 9-15 year-olds.
Course and Location
The race takes place in Oxford. The start and finish area is the Event Village in University Parks, near the cricket pavilion. The 10K course is a closed-road route through Oxford city centre and University Parks. Runners pass historic landmarks and university buildings. The route also goes through city parks and alongside rivers. The course is described as fast and flat. Participants can run pushing a running buggy on the route.
Participant Information
Entry includes a race bib with a timing chip. Results are sent via SMS post-race and published online. Participants receive a bespoke medal at the finish line.
An event village opens in the morning and includes facilities like an information tent, baggage storage, a registration tent, food stalls, and toilets. Baggage storage is available; a label attached to the race bib must be secured to the bag. A professional warm-up is provided before the race.
Logistics and Access
The start line is on Banbury Road, a short walk from the event village in University Parks. There are extensive road closures in the city centre on race day. Parking in central Oxford is extremely limited, with no parking in the immediate race area. The event village is a maximum 10-minute walk from the city centre bus stops and a 20-minute walk from Oxford train station.
For wheelchair users or participants with accessibility requirements, contact is provided to make arrangements. The event also offers the opportunity to use a provided racing chair for assisted runners.
Policies
The event has a zero-tolerance policy for abuse, harassment, discrimination, or intimidation. Participants can transfer their place to another person by a specified deadline. Deferring a place to the following year's event is possible, typically for a 50% discount on the entry fee. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
