Event Overview

The Oxbow Trail Runs is a family event taking place in Oxbow Regional Park, Metro, located just outside Gresham, Oregon, on the Sandy River. It is about 30 minutes from downtown Portland.

Distances

The event offers three distances:

  • 5K
  • 10K
  • Half Marathon

The 5K is described as a kid-friendly course. A reduced entry fee of $25 applies for participants aged 18 and under.

Course Details

All three races start and finish at the Alder Picnic Area in the center of the park, next to the Sandy River.

  • The 5K course is described as reasonably flat, winding through the Ancient Forest before climbing on a gravel road and providing views of the Sandy River.
  • The 10K course follows the 5K route initially, then climbs to Alder Ridge and circles Elk Meadow.
  • The Half Marathon course consists of two 10K loops with an extra mile on the first loop. The total elevation for the Half Marathon is 1560 feet.

Event Day

Parking at Oxbow Regional Park costs $5 per car. This fee is included for participants who register by April 13. The park opens at 6:30 AM.

Check-in begins at 8:00 AM for the half marathon, 8:00 AM for the 10k, and 8:00 AM for the 5k. The Half Marathon starts at 9:00 AM, the 10k at 9:20 AM, and the 5k at 9:40 AM.

The event is a cupless race. Water and Honey Stinger electrolytes will be available at an aid station for the 10K and Half Marathon participants to refill their own containers.

Post-Race

The Alder Picnic Area is reserved for participants and their guests for the day. Post-race food is provided by ETA catering, including complimentary sandwiches (meat and vegan options). Finishers receive a cup for root beer floats. The area also features horseshoe pits, play structures, and a trail down to the Sandy River beach. Camping is available at the park for the weekend.

Registration opens on January 1 via UltraSignup. The event is limited to 150 total runners. Awards are given to the top 3 male, female, and non-binary finishers, as well as the top Masters (40+) finishers, in each race. Prizes are also raffled from event sponsors.
