About the race
The Dawson Community Food Bank & Thrift is organizing the inaugural Outrun Hunger 5K charity run and walk on October 24, 2026, at Yahoola Creek Park in Dahlonega. The event combines an on-site 5K and a virtual race option. Participants receive custom finisher medals and race shirts; overall awards and awards for the top three in standard five year age groups from 10 and under through 80 plus are planned. All net proceeds support local households facing food insecurity.
The event aims to fund assistance for 3,000 local households totaling 8,800 individuals, including 1,900 seniors and 2,400 children. The Dawson Community Food Bank & Thrift is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and a member of the Georgia Mountain Food Bank network, serving Dawson, Lumpkin and surrounding counties. The event includes a food drive and raffle; each canned or dry goods item brought to the event earns one raffle ticket. A course map is available for the 5K.
Registration has tiered pricing with early bird, regular, late and race day rates and a guaranteed race shirt for entries completed by October 14. Sponsorship levels are offered with benefits on event shirts and in marketing, including Bronze, Silver and Gold options.
