Outpacing Melanoma 5K
The Outpacing Melanoma 5K is an annual community event held in Overland Park, Kansas. The event takes place at Corporate Woods and aims to raise awareness for melanoma prevention, screening, and research within the greater Kansas City region.
Participants can choose from several event categories:
- 5K Individual
- 5K Team
- Dot-To-Dot Kid Trot (for children ages 10 and under)
The 5K course is described as scenic and is open to runners and walkers of various fitness levels. The event is family-friendly, allowing the use of strollers and dogs on a leash. Participants in the 5K receive themed shirts and, for the first time in the event's history, a custom finisher medal, provided they are wearing their race bib. Awards are also presented to top finishers.
Post-race activities include a celebration featuring lemonade stands and various activities specifically for children and families. Pre-race packet pickup is organized at a local retail location in the days leading up to the event. The proceeds from the race and fundraising efforts support the Outpacing Melanoma Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on early detection and research funding.
