Trail Endurance Challenge in Eugene
OUTLAST Eugene is a 6-hour trail endurance event held at Friends of Buford Park and Mt. Pisgah. Participants must complete a 5 km lap every hour on the hour. To stay in the event, each lap must be finished within the 60-minute window. Runners who finish a lap early use the remaining time to rest and recover at the basecamp until the start of the next round. If a participant fails to complete a lap within the hour, they are removed from the competition.
The course features natural trail terrain including dirt, rocks, roots, and elevation changes. Some sections may also include gravel or pavement. This format focuses on pacing and consistency over approximately 30 km for those who complete all six rounds.
Available distance formats:
- 6 Hour Challenge (six 5 km laps)
The event follows a cupless policy, requiring runners to bring their own hydration systems or bottles. Aid stations at the loop start provide water, basic hydration, and snacks. Participants are permitted to set up personal tents or aid stations at the basecamp area.
Completion of four laps earns a "Grit Earned" patch, and five laps result in a "Survivor" patch. Those who finish all six laps receive an event medal and a ranking on the national leaderboard. The top male and female finishers are determined by the fastest combined time across all six laps. Winners from each city earn a spot in a season-ending championship event.
