About the race
First Run is a two-day running and walking event held at Valley River Inn in Eugene, Oregon on December 31, 2026 and January 1, 2027. The event offers timed 10K and 5K distances on each day, with a common start and finish on the bike path directly behind the hotel.

- New Year’s Eve: 10K and 5K
- New Year’s Day: 10K and 5K
Both courses begin with a crossing of the Delta Highway bike bridge and include a short loop over the Greenway Bike Bridge and around the nearby soccer field before returning to the finish. The 10K uses two out-and-back sections and additionally crosses the Owosso Bike Bridge past Marist High School. Courses are marked and marshaled, and water stations are accessible along the routes.
The event uses chip timing with BIB chip start and finish; awards are based on chip time. Special themed prizes will be given to male and female 5K and 10K champions for each day, and medals will be awarded to the top three in each age division. Participants who complete both days are eligible for cumulative-time awards in three combination categories (two 5Ks, one 5K plus one 10K, or two 10Ks).
Packet pick-up takes place in the Willamette Foyer area of Valley River Inn adjacent to the LTD bus stop on each race day. Registration is offered online, in person at two local running stores, and on race day. Long sleeve tech shirts in red are available for an additional fee while supplies last; an early shirt cut-off is listed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
