The Event

OUTLAST BLUE RIDGE is a 6-hour trail endurance challenge. Participants run a 5K trail lap every hour. To stay in the event, each lap must be finished within that hour. If a runner finishes early, they wait until the next hour starts. Missing a lap time means elimination from the challenge. Completing all six laps results in "OUTLASTing" the event.

The Course and Setup

The event is held at Tyron International Hunter State Park in Mill Spring, North Carolina. The course is on trail terrain, which can include dirt, rocks, roots, and elevation changes. Participants are advised to bring trail shoes and their own hydration system, as it is a cupless event. A basecamp area with water and snacks is available. Participants are allowed to set up personal tents or aid stations.

Awards and Recognition

All participants receive a premium event t-shirt. Runners earn different patches or a medal based on the number of laps completed:

  • 4 laps: "Grit Earned" patch.
  • 5 laps: "Survivor" patch.
  • 6 laps: Premium "OUTLAST" medal.

The top male and female runners with the fastest combined time for all six laps at this event win a 1st Place award. All finishers of six laps are ranked on a national leaderboard, with the fastest runner across all OUTLAST events winning a national title and $1,000. The top 100 national times are invited to a final championship event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
