Out of the Ashes 5K and Remembrance Walk
Out of the Ashes is an evening event that combines a competitive 5k and a Remembrance Walk. The Remembrance Walk includes marked stations representing stages of pregnancy and infant loss; tables with candles and signs provide spaces to honor and remember children and families affected by miscarriage, stillbirth, early infant loss, and infertility.
The competitive 5k follows a mostly flat route through a residential neighborhood and consists of two loops, with the second loop slightly shorter than the first. Officers will help manage neighborhood traffic and a security vehicle will lead the runners. Volunteers and wayfinding signs direct participants along the route. Neighborhood roads will be closed to thru traffic and restrooms are available. The course begins and ends at East City Church and weaves through the McClintock Woods neighborhood; East Mecklenburg High School has provided parking nearby.

Entry fees vary by registration date, with listed fees of $40, $45, and $50, and a $40 virtual race fee. Children under 10 may participate for free in the interactive event. Packet pickup is available the evening before at East City Church and also on race day. Awards recognize top three finishers, male and female, and include age-group recognition for competitive and virtual runs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
