Otter Rail and River Run
Otter Rail and River Run is an off-road running event held in Tipton St John with routes that start and finish on the village playing field. The courses follow public footpaths and rights of way through the Otter Valley and include sections along the River Otter, Harpford woods and the old Sidmouth railway line.
Two main events are offered and distances include:
- 10 km Rail and River: undulating off-road route through Otter Valley
- Carol Weaver Fun Run: approximately 1 mile off-road route, adults advised to accompany under 8s
The Rail and River 10 km has an age limit of 15 and entries are available through SiEntries only. Finishers aged 18 or older receive a bottle of Otter Ale with an alcohol and a zero alcohol option. Custom medals or coasters are available as optional extras. The Carol Weaver Fun Run welcomes all ages; children under 8 should be accompanied by an adult. Fun Run finishers receive a locally designed medal and a jelly snake.
The event is organised by Tipton St John Playing Field Association in conjunction with Sidmouth Running Club and is held under ARC rules. Camping on the playing field is permitted over the weekend with fees of £15 per camper or caravan and £10 per tent per night, and can be added during entry checkout.
