Otter Rail and River Run
Otter Rail and River Run takes place on Saturday 11 July 2026 at Tipton St John Playing Field in the Otter Valley. The event is organised by Tipton St John Playing Field Association in conjunction with Sidmouth Running Club and is held under ARC rules.
It offers two race options:
- 10 km off-road
- Fun Run approximately 1 mile
The 10 km is an off-road route that starts and finishes on the village playing field and follows public footpaths and rights of way. The undulating course runs alongside the River Otter, through Harpford woods, along the old Sidmouth railway line, through fields to Fluxton and along tracks back to the village. The age limit for the 10 km is 15 and over. Finishers aged 18 or older receive a bottle of Otter Ale or a zero alcohol option. Medals or a coaster are available as an optional extra. Entry fee is £22 with a £2 discount for UKA or ARC members.
The Carol Weaver Fun Run is approximately 1 mile and is off-road. Adults are advised to accompany children under 8 as there may be cows in the field. All finishers receive a locally designed medal and a jelly snake. Entry fee is £5. Entries for the fun run may be submitted through the event system or on the day, while the 10 km is entry through the event system only.
Camping is permitted on the field over the weekend; fees are £15 per pitch for camper or caravan and £10 per tent per night. Entries opened 2 January 2026 and close 4 July 2026. Entries so far: 130 participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
