OTT Marathon & 10 Mile Race

The OTT Trail Marathon and 10 Mile Race are held in the Brecon Beacons, featuring a course that begins and finishes at Parkwood Dolygaer in Merthyr Tydfil. The event centers on mountain trails and incorporates several significant climbs through the local landscape.

The event offers two distinct distances:

  • Marathon: A course of approximately 26.2 miles with three checkpoints and a six-hour cutoff.
  • 10 Mile Race: A shorter trail route that follows the marathon course to the first checkpoint.

The marathon route visits landmarks such as Pen Y Fan, Graig Fan Ddu, Fan Y Big, Talybont Reservoir, and Tor y Foel. Participants in the 10 mile event separate from the marathon course after the first checkpoint at the seven-mile mark to follow forestry tracks back to the finish. The marathon distance maintains three aid stations, while the 10-miler includes one.

Compulsory equipment is required for all participants. Marathon runners must carry a mobile phone, a minimum of one liter of hydration, a foil blanket or bivi bag, 400 calories of emergency rations, a first aid kit, a whistle, a head torch, and a waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams. They also require warm layers, including a hat and gloves, a reusable cup, and a compass. Participants in the 10 mile race are required to carry a first aid kit, a bivi or foil blanket, 500ml of water, a waterproof jacket, and a reusable cup.

All finishers receive a themed coaster and a buff. Registration is open to individuals aged 18 and older. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
