Osprey 10K Run / 5K Run-Walk
The Osprey 10K Run / 5K Run-Walk takes place on April 25, 2026 at Smith Mountain Lake State Park in Huddleston, Virginia. The event is organized by Friends of Smith Mountain Lake State Park, Inc., a volunteer 501(c)(3) group. Proceeds support park improvements, environmental education, wildlife events, and community outreach.
The race uses chip timing with live results available immediately after finishing. Post-race refreshments include recovery drinks, fruit, and energy bars. Top overall and age group finishers for men and women receive awards. All participants receive a moisture-wicking performance shirt; registration by April 3 is listed as the deadline to guarantee a shirt.
Course details:
- 5K 3.12 miles, total elevation gain 217 feet.
- 10K 6.19 miles, total elevation gain 363 feet.
Both courses start at the Beach Pavilion and use State Park Road and Interpretive Trail for much of the route. The 5K features a steady opening climb, a water stop at about 1.5 miles that serves as the turnaround, and a final short uphill before a slightly downhill finish. The 10K follows the same opening route, adds a second turnaround near the Discovery Center, and includes a short out-and-back on Overnight Road that contains the steepest section of the course.
