Osprey 10K Run
The Osprey 10K is a 6.19 miles road and trail race at Smith Mountain Lake State Park in Huddleston, VA on April 24, 2027. The course has a measured total elevation gain of 363 feet, averaging about 59 feet per mile.
The route begins at the Beach Pavilion and follows the same opening section as the 5K: a loop around the main beach parking lot onto State Park Road with a gradual, sustained climb past the boat ramp parking area. At about 1.2 miles runners turn right onto Interpretive Trail. After the first water stop at 1.5 miles, the course continues through rolling terrain toward the Discovery Center area. A second water stop and turnaround is located at the 2.8-mile mark, just before the Discovery Center parking lot, with lake views on both sides of the road.
Runners return along Interpretive Trail and, near the 4.25-mile mark, turn right onto Overnight Road for a short out-and-back that includes the steepest portion of the course. A water stop sits at the bottom of that hill before the climb back up. The course then rejoins the 5K route, leads onto State Park Road for a long controlled downhill, loops around the main beach parking lot, and includes a short uphill through the upper beach parking area. The final 0.1 mile eases slightly downhill then flattens to a finish facing the same direction as the start.
Chip timing is provided by Run Roanoke with live results available immediately after finishing. Post-race refreshments are offered, and top overall and age group finishers receive custom awards. All participants receive a moisture-wicking performance shirt; registration by April 2 guarantees a shirt. Proceeds support park improvements, environmental education, and community outreach.
