Osprey 10K Run and Osprey 5K Run Walk
The event takes place at Smith Mountain Lake State Park in Huddleston, Virginia. Two measured course options are offered:
- 10 km (6.19 miles), 363 ft total elevation gain
- 5 km (3.12 miles), 217 ft total elevation gain
Both courses begin at the Beach Pavilion and pass the main beach parking area and State Park Road. The 5K includes a sustained climb past the boat ramp parking area, a turn onto Interpretive Trail at about 1.2 miles, a water stop and turnaround at 1.5 miles, and a final loop through the upper beach parking area before finishing on a short flat section.
The 10K follows the 5K route initially but continues past the first water stop toward the Discovery Center area, with a second water stop and turnaround near 2.8 miles. The extended route adds an out and back on Overnight Road that contains the steepest portion of the course, then rejoins the 5K route for the long controlled downhill and final loop to the finish.
Chip timing by Run Roanoke provides accurate results with live results available immediately after finishing. Post-race refreshments include recovery drinks, fruit, and energy bars. Top overall and age group finishers for men and women receive custom awards by local artists, and all participants receive a moisture wicking performance shirt. Participants who register by April 2 are guaranteed a race shirt. Registration fees are listed as $30 for the 5K and $45 for the 10K.
