Deck the Heels 5K Night Run
The Deck the Heels 5K Night Run is held the second Saturday of December each year in Altavista, Virginia. The event offers an in person 5K that follows city streets through Altavista and into Hurt, and a virtual 5K option whose participants may choose a course and submit their time to the results page. The in person course starts at the corner of Broad Street and Main Street, includes turnaround points on Main Street and in Hurt, crosses a bridge over the river, passes through a tunnel in Hurt, and finishes at the corner of Main Street and Broad Street.
Packet pickup is at the Booker Building, 400 Broad Street, Altavista. A pickup session is scheduled for Friday, December 11, with additional pickup available on race day. Glow in the dark accessories are available at packet pickup. Long sleeve unisex shirts are guaranteed for participants registered by November 21; a limited number of extra shirts may be available at packet pickup. All finishers receive a finisher medal.
The event includes post-run holiday activities such as food, hot chocolate, music, and a Santa appearance. Proceeds support the Claire Parker Foundation, which provides ongoing care and emotional support for children and families affected by pediatric cancer.
