ORRC Turkey Trot at The Zoo : Event overview
The ORRC Turkey Trot at the Oregon Zoo is scheduled for Thursday, November 27, 2025, in Portland, OR. The event includes multiple running and youth options and is organized as a noncompetitive, untimed outing on an out-and-back course that starts at the Oregon Zoo Forestry Center / MAX station, runs toward the International Rose Garden, and finishes inside the zoo at Elephant Plaza. The 5K course contains mostly downhill or uphill sections with very little flat terrain. Approximately $25,000 of registration fees benefit the Oregon Zoo.
Distances and youth events:
- 5K untimed out-and-back
- 1/8 mile Tot Trot (ages 0–4)
- 1/4 mile Gobble Gallop (ages 5–10)
- Additional paid zoo entry for non-participating spectators
Logistics and race details
Registration for non-ORRC members is capped at 2,300; ORRC members have no cap. There is no day-of-race registration for the main events and a bib is required for entry to the zoo; zoo membership does not grant access. Children ages 2 and older require registration for zoo entry unless under age 2 and riding in a stroller or not participating in the kids runs. Family pricing and a Pay It Forward Fund for discounted entries are available.
Participants receive a beanie hat and a chocolate turkey; children in the Tot Trot and Gobble Gallop receive a commemorative ribbon and goodies. T-shirts and long-sleeve tech shirts are available by pre-order (deadline November 1). The zoo is closed to the general public for the event; animals are not guaranteed to be visible. The train, carousel, and concession stands will not be open. There is no aid station on the 5K course; food and drink are provided at the finish area.
