Orienteering at Guidon Park, Cornwall
This event uses a new map on the shores of the St. Lawrence River in Cornwall. It is part of the organizer's Sunday events and includes courses for novice, intermediate and advanced orienteers. Orienteering involves map reading and compass navigation and is described as suitable for a range of ages and fitness levels.
Participants who have not attended before must provide contact information and sign a waiver; providing personal details in advance allows inclusion in the on-site database and speeds up on-site registration. That advance submission must be completed 48 hours before the event to allow time for upload. Final registration and payment take place on-site.
The general meeting area is shown on the event map; the exact meeting point and other meet specifics will be posted in the week before the event. Course controls are collected when courses close and all participants must report to finish by course closure. A brief 15 minute Mini Intro to Orienteering clinic is offered for those who want a short review of map reading, basic navigation and event procedures; attendees should arrive early enough to register first so they have a map in hand.
Participants are asked to bring their own water bottles; water will be provided with limited use of disposable cups. A recycling box is provided for clean map bags. Organizers refer participants to their Safety and Ethics information and suggest a careful tick check after returning from the area. After a run, participants may add their course to Livelox to compare routes and learn from others. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
