About the race
The Orientation Runs provide recorded practice runs on portions of the Squamish 50 routes with on-course support, route maps and downloadable GPX files. Organizers check participants in and monitor that everyone exits the wilderness safely.
A light aid station is provided for each run courtesy of Nesters Market and Näak with gels, energy drink mix, water, Coke, chips, cookies, oranges and bananas. A minimum $10 donation is collected for SORCA trail maintenance; donations can be made online or paid before a run and all proceeds go to trail upkeep.
Events in the tentative schedule include: Sunday, March 7 : approximately 21 km following the 23 km course with a start nearer Capilano University (formerly Quest) and a finish before the race day finish area. Meet location is in front of Nesters Market; this run is point to point and requires carpool or shuttle arrangements. Aid station at the entrance to The Far Side about 13 km in. Approximate run times: about 2 hours for lead runners and 4.5 hours for back-of-the-pack runners.
Sunday, April 18 : options of 25 km or 28 km from Capra Running Co along Coho Trail and parts of the 50 mile course; a 3 km Debeck’s addition is unmarked and requires GPS navigation. Aid station at Rob’s and Cliff’s Corners (around 18 km).
Saturday, June 19 : options of 35 km or 45 km from Capra following the 50 mile alignment including Galactic Scheisse to Capilano and back; the 35 km route omits a 10 km loop. Aid stations at roughly 18 km and 28 km for longer distance. Multiple optional additions or shortcuts are not marked and should only be attempted by runners familiar with the area.
