Course and purpose
The annual Orange Shirt Day Run/Walk takes place on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Organized by Indigenous Runner / Red Trail Running, the event remembers children who did not survive the residential school era and provides support for survivors. Funds raised go to local grassroots movements, support for Indigenous athletes, and the creation of safe spaces for Indigenous runners.
Events are held in multiple locations including Edmonton, Saskatoon and Peace River. Course descriptions include: Edmonton runs through groomed trails in the North Saskatchewan River Valley with wide-track trail and some pavement; Saskatoon starts at Rotary Park and follows the Meewasin Trail with similar trail and pavement sections; Peace River starts at Riverfront Park.
