OPSF 50|50 Trail Race : Owen-Putnam State Forest
OPSF 50|50 is a multi-distance trail event held in Owen-Putnam State Forest near Horse Campground in Poland, Indiana. Distances offered include:
- 50 miles
- 50 kilometers
- 14 miles
- 10 kilometers
The core route is a 14-mile loop made up of about 90% single track and horse trails with some fire road sections. The course follows a lollipop layout: a stick from Start/Finish to Aid A and a loop from Aid A through Aid B and back. The 50 mile field completes the lollipop loop multiple times with an additional short loop, the 50 kilometer field completes the loop twice plus a bonus short loop, and the 10 kilometer course is one loop.
This is a cupless event. Runners must be able to carry 20 oz of water on their person at all times because no cups are provided at aid stations. Trails include rolling hills and sections described by organizers as challenging in places.
Logistics noted by organizers include packet pick-up the evening before at a local venue and same-day pick-up at Start/Finish. 14 mile and 10 kilometer participants are shuttled from Owen County Family YMCA to Horse Campground while 50 mile and 50 kilometer participants park at Horse Campground. Entrants registered by March 1 receive event swag; age group awards and finisher medals are given to finishers. Camping at Horse Campground is available for a fee on a first come basis with limited sites. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
