Event Overview
The One In A Million 5K Run/Walk takes place at Lady Bird Johnson Park in San Antonio, Texas. Now in its third year, this event is organized to support individuals affected by appendix cancer and related conditions such as Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP). The race area features educational signs that provide information about these rare diseases and emphasize the importance of exercise and self-advocacy in health journeys.
Participants can choose from several event categories:
- 5 km (chip timed)
- 1 mile
- Kids (ages 4-10)
- Kids (ages 0-3)
- Virtual race (1 mile or 5 km)
The 5 km path is a timed course eligible for awards, while the 1 mile and kids' categories focus on participation. All in-person finishers receive a race shirt and a medal. The kids' categories are designed for young participants, with the age 0-3 group being free with a paid adult.
Location and Support
The event is held at Lady Bird Johnson Park, located at 10700 Nacogdoches Rd. Net proceeds from the registration fees benefit PMP Pals, a global network providing support programs for patients and caregivers. These programs include mentoring, online community meetings, and medical outreach.
Registration and Awards
Awards are reserved for the 5 km category. Recognition is given to the overall male and female winners, as well as the top three finishers in age groups ranging from 11-15 to 70+. Virtual participants can complete their distance at any location and will receive a shirt and medal by mail, though they are not eligible for timing awards.
