Event Overview
The TMC Old Tucson Trail Run takes place at a historic western film set in Tucson, Arizona. Participants run through the streets of a frontier town used in numerous Hollywood films. The event area features a mix of dusty streets, horse trails, and desert terrain.
Course Details
The event offers several distances across varying terrain:
- 8-Mile Trail Run: This course consists of a 2-mile loop within the Old Tucson grounds, followed by a 4-mile loop on the trails of Tucson Mountain Park, and concludes with a final 2-mile loop back inside the film set.
- 4-Mile Trail Run: This route loops through the desert terrain and horse trails of the Old Tucson Studios.
- 1-Mile Walk/Fun Run: A less technical course designed for all abilities, including a specific category for participants aged 14 and under.
- Lil' Partners 100-yard dash: A short run for young children around the film sets.
Terrain and Environment
The courses primarily consist of dirt, single-track trails, and washes. While the routes are mostly flat, they include some inclines and rugged sections. The 8-mile course specifically contains a more challenging segment between miles 3 and 5. Due to the nature of the terrain, which includes dirt roads and desert vegetation like cactus, the longer distances are not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. However, the 1-mile course is accessible for these participants.
Additional Information
The event starts and finishes at the Bitter Creek and High Chaparral sets. Participants are encouraged to wear western-themed costumes for a contest held during the ceremony. The first 700 to 750 registrants receive a commemorative souvenir shirt. All participants receive a souvenir race number. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
