Event Details
The Officer Shawn Silvera Memorial 5K is held in memory of Officer Shawn Silvera of the Lino Lakes Police Department, who died in the line of duty in 2005. The event includes several activities to honor his service and support a related cause.
Event Format and Distances
The event offers four different activities:
- Public Safety 5k Challenge: A team event for first responders.
- Civilian 5k Challenge: A 5k run for all participants.
- 1 Mile Walk of Remembrance: A walk.
- Daisy Dash: A children's run.
Supporting Charity
The event supports the Invisible Wounds Project. This organization provides mental health support, wellness programs, and social opportunities for veterans, first responders, and their families. Proceeds from the event also support youth considering a career in law enforcement.
Team Challenges
The Public Safety Challenge is a friendly competition for teams of first responders and military members. Teams require a minimum of four runners, with at least two being current or former first responders. Teams compete for a traveling trophy, with the top three finishers' places counting.
The Civilian 5k Challenge allows participants to run solo or in teams of any size. The top three finishers' places from a team determine the challenge champions. Special awards are available for runners in both 5k challenges.
Additional Activities
The event features a vendor fair, where businesses can set up booths at no cost, with a requested donation of 15% or more of race-day profits. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
