Memorial 5K and community events
This memorial 5K and associated events take place on September 20, 2026, at the Invisible Wounds Project (IWP) Center in Forest Lake, Minnesota (840 Lake St. S, Unit B). Proceeds from the day support the Invisible Wounds Project and the MN Law Enforcement Explorers scholarship program that benefits veterans, first responders, and their families.
The event program includes packet pick-up and same-day onsite registration at the IWP Center. There is a standard registration fee, with higher same-day fees for runners and walkers. A pancake breakfast hosted by the Lions Club and live music are scheduled during the morning. Announcements and a brief address precede the singing of the national anthem. Race awards and a Public Safety Challenge team award are presented later in the morning.
The Public Safety Challenge invites teams where at least two members are current or former first responders; a minimum of four runners is required to form a team and the top three finishing places determine team scoring. A parallel Civilian 5K Challenge allows individual runners or teams of any size to compete for awards. A vendor fair offers complimentary booth space with a requested donation from race-day profits; space is limited.

- 5K Race (3.1 miles) : Start at IWP Center, south on Hardwood Creek Trail, return to start.
- 1 Mile Walk : Walkers begin behind runners, go north on Hardwood Creek Trail, then return.
- 50 yard Daisy Dash : Short 50 yard run for children 10 and under, starts at the main starting line.
