Occoneechee State Park Turkey Trot : 2026
The Friends of Occoneechee present the third annual Turkey Trot at Occoneechee State Park in Clarksville, VA, bordering John Kerr Lake. The event includes two distances:
- 1 mile Kids One Mile Run
- 5K Run
The 5K course follows paved roads through wooded park areas, with rolling hills and lake views. The 5K is officially timed and measured. Well-mannered leashed pets and costumes are welcome for both the 5K and the kids run. Race packets will be available on the day of the event.
The Kids One Mile Run is for children 13 and under; parental assistance and strollers are allowed. Every participating child will receive a medal, a swag bag, and healthy refreshments. 5K participants receive swag bags and healthy refreshments as well. Medals will be awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers in the 5K and to the top three male and female finishers in each age group: 19 and under, 20–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, and 60 and over.
Following the 5K there will be an award for Best Costume, an archery program, and a disc golf contest. Proceeds benefit Occoneechee State Park and fund projects such as a pedestrian walkway, a bike path, a sensory trail, and other park improvements. Previous contributions helped complete the Breaking Point Disc Golf course and enabled a 271 pound food donation to a local food bank.
Registration opens August 1, 2026. Regular registration ends November 8, 2026. Late registration runs November 9–12 and day-of in-person registration is cash only. Regular fees are $10 for the kids run and $30 for the 5K; late fees are higher. Park admission is $7 per vehicle or a donation of four cans of food.
