Occoneechee Mountain Challenge 10 Mile Race - Event details
The Occoneechee Mountain Challenge is a 10 mile trail race on Sunday, January 25, 2026, in Hillsborough, North Carolina. The event is organized by the Hillsborough Running Club. The listed entry fee is $60. Proceeds go to local charities and organizations through the club.
The course is off public roads except for one crossing. There is a time limit of 2.5 hours (15 min per mile pace). Two aid stations are available and will be passed twice; they will offer water, Gatorade and gels.
Course and logistics
The race starts and finishes on the Historic Occoneechee Speedway Track at 320 Elizabeth Brady Road. The route uses the Riverwalk (part of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail), passes the Occaneechi Indian Village and goes through Gold Park. The middle third climbs to the top of Occoneechee Mountain and includes about 700 ft of elevation gain. Approximately 3.5 miles of the route are paved (mile 1.3 to 3 out, and the same section back). The middle 3.5 miles are single-track around the mountain, with the ascent to the peak on a gravel access road. Trail surfaces include rocks, roots, steps and mud.
Parking is at OE Enterprises just beyond the main Speedway entrance off Elizabeth Brady Road. Finish line provisions include beef and veggie chili, bread and coffee. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
