Oakwood24
Oakwood24 is an annual 24 hour run and walk that raises funds for Healing Transitions. In its ninth year, the event has grown from its original cemetery setting to a larger outdoor venue, Lakeside Retreats, which offers space for camping, ample parking, family friendly activities, and unpaved running trails.
The event is an official timed ultra run and includes distance, time, and relay options for participants. A designated Remembrance Hour is part of the program to honor people who have died from the disease of addiction. Funds raised by Oakwood24 support services for homeless, uninsured, and underserved individuals in Wake County who are struggling with addiction. To date, the event has raised over $1,000,000 for Healing Transitions.
Organizers describe multiple ways to support the event, including donations, sponsorships, fundraising teams, and volunteering. The move to Lakeside Retreats followed seven years at the original site and reflects growth in attendance and event size.
