Oak Ridges Moraine Adventure Relay
The Oak Ridges Moraine Adventure Relay is a multisport event crossing one of Ontario's most significant landscapes. This human-powered journey highlights the natural beauty of the Oak Ridges Moraine through several athletic disciplines. The event functions as a fundraiser for the Oak Ridges Trail Association, supporting trail maintenance and environmental awareness.
Participants can compete in either Elite or Recreational divisions. Elite teams are timed based on total gun time, while Recreational teams are timed based on the summed total of each individual leg. The event offers two primary formats:
- Full Relay (~160 km): Includes a canoe leg on Rice Lake followed by biking and running stages heading west toward York Region.
- Half Relay (~90 km): Covers a subsection of the main route, consisting of biking and running portions without the canoe leg.
The course features specialized stages:
- Canoe leg for two people (Full Relay only).
- Six bike stages totaling approximately 95 km of mixed trail, sand, gravel, and pavement riding.
- Seven run or hike stages totaling approximately 55 km of rolling trail terrain.
Teams may consist of up to 15 members for the Full Relay and up to 7 members for the Half Relay. While one team member typically completes each stage, individuals are permitted to complete multiple stages. Water and snacks are available at designated checkpoints, though participants are expected to be self-sufficient between stations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
