Event details
The Oak Mountain race day takes place at Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, Alabama. The event offers three distances:
- 50K
- 25K
- 6 Miler
The park covers about 11,584 acres. The course runs on mostly single-track trails and includes two climbs up to the top of Double Oak Mountain. Notable features on the routes include Peavine Falls (about 65 feet tall), Maggie's Glen, and Shackleford Point (1,260 ft, the park's highest point). The 50K route has no repeating loops. Time limits are set for each distance.
Courses and aid stations
The 50K route starts at the Dogwood Pavilion and uses the Yellow, Blue, White, and Red trails in a sequence that passes Peavine Falls multiple times. The total elevation gain is about 3,600 feet. There are four manned aid stations and several water-only points along the 50K course.
The 25K route also starts at the Dogwood Pavilion, follows the Yellow trail to the North Trailhead, returns via the Red Bump Trail to Terrace Drive, then the Lake Trail to the finish. The 25K course includes water-only points and at least one manned aid station.
Logistics
Park entrance passes are purchased at the front gate: $5 per adult (age 12+), $2 per child (age 4-11), $2 per senior (age 62+), free for ages 3 and under; active and retired military and veterans enter free. Packet pickup and parking are at the Dogwood Pavilion (GPS 33.3226442, -86.7622678). Restrooms are available in front of the pavilion. There are no refunds, no race day registration, no entry transfers, and no deferrals. Results will be posted online. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
