Oak Mountain 50K (Pelham, AL)
Oak Mountain 50K is a trail race held inside Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, Alabama. The event offers three distances:
- 50K
- 25K
- 6 Miler
The courses run on mostly single track trails through forested hills and include two climbs to the top of Double Oak Mountain. The 50K route passes Peavine Falls, an approximately 65 foot naturally fed waterfall, and traverses Maggie's Glen and Shackleford Point at about 1,260 feet. The 50K has no repeating loops and an approximate elevation gain of 3,600 feet.
Course and aid details are specified for each distance. The 50K includes four manned aid stations and several water-only stations at multiple mile markers. Time limits are published per distance: 50K 9 hours 30 minutes, 25K 9 hours, 6 Miler 5 hours. Course maps and GPX files are provided by the organizer.
Practical information includes packet pickup on the day before and race morning at specified locations, parking and restrooms in front of Dogwood Pavilion, and a GPS coordinate for Dogwood Pavilion. Oak Mountain State Park passes are purchased at the front gate with listed fees and active military free. Results and award categories are published after the event. The event policy prohibits strollers, animals, bicycles, and unentered runners and asks that pets be kept at least 50 feet from aid stations and start/finish areas.
