NYCRUNS Brooklyn Ice Cream Social Half Marathon
The Brooklyn Ice Cream Social Half Marathon takes place in Prospect Park and serves as the concluding event of the summer Ice Cream Social Race Series. The event provides a distance goal for the summer season or a training opportunity for those preparing for autumn marathons.
The half marathon course is USATF-certified and consists of just under four full loops of Prospect Park. Participants pass Center Drive three times during the loops before making a final turn onto Center Drive for the sprint to the finish line. Due to the high number of turns on this specific course, it is not recommended for handcycle or wheelchair athletes.
The festival area is located in the Nethermead and serves as the central hub for:
- Bib distribution and gear check
- Tech shirt collection
- Portable restroom access
- Post-race activities
Amenities provided include water and Gatorade stations along the course and at the finish. After completing the distance, participants receive a finisher medal and refreshments, including pretzels, apples, and ice cream or non-dairy ice pops.
The event utilizes a pace-based corral system for the start, located on Well House Drive. Access to the site is available via mass transit, with the B, Q, F, and G subway lines stopping near Prospect Park. Performance awards are presented to the top three overall finishers and the top three in various age groups for male, female, and non-binary categories.
